Leukocytes a.k.a. White blood cells
- White blood cells are the only complete element out of all the formed elements.
- White blood cells have a nuclei and all of the other organelles.
- White blood cells make up less than one percent of the total blood volume.
- White blood cells are crucial to our defense against diseases ( bacteria, viruses, parasites, toxins, and tumor cells)
- White blood cells travel in the blood vessels, but they can slip out of the blood vessels into tissues and they can pinpoint areas of damage or infection.
The five different variations of Leukocytes
There are five various types of leukocytes, Neutrophils, Lymphocytes, Monocytes, Eosinophils, and basophils. These can easily be remembered in order from most abundant to least abundant by remembering the phrase Never Let Monkeys Eat Bananas.
